T3: IP Telephony 101
IP based phone systems have become the de-facto standard for business class telecommunications. Long gone are the days when IP Telephony was “bleeding edge.” However, there are still many complex issues that must be considered and addressed before the decision to move to an IP based phone system is made. The data network must be well designed, fault-tolerant, secure, and stable because both data traffic and voice traffic travel across the same wires and devices. The many advantages of IP Telephony can be lost if the data network cannot fully support voice traffic.
We will explore how IP telephony works and how to avoid landmines. We will also discuss important technologies such as Quality of Service, toll-bypass vs. Internet phone vs. IP Telephony, and Power over Ethernet.
This seminar will help you learn the basics of IP Telephony. The goal of the seminar is to help you fully understand how IP Telephony works and what it can, and cannot do. We will also help you determine if this technology would benefit your organization.
